Nearly three weeks after watching his son take the next step in his hockey career by getting drafted, George McPhee is set to begin the next chapter of his career by taking on the job of general manager for the Las Vegas expansion franchise. McPhee, who has been working as a special advisor to New York Islanders GM Garth Snow since September, was officially announced Wednesday in Las Vegas as the franchise’s first general manager. McPhee will bring plenty of experience to the gig having spent 17 years as GM of the Washington Capitals, helping setup an infrastructure within the organization that helped turned the team in perennial contenders.
