With today’s arbitration hearing finally taking place between the Rangers and Nikolai Zherdev, it figures to be a quiet weekend as the two sides await the result.
Who will win? The Rangers who don’t want to pay a penny less than the $3.25 qualifying offer or Zherdev, who demanded a much higher $4.5 million. Figure the [...]

By Derek Felix at 29 July, 2009, 9:44 pm
The NHL Board of Governors approved a bid by Bulls/White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf to buy the Phoenix Coyotes earlier today. He was one of just three applicants to receive approval.
Reinsdorf’s $148 million bid would keep the struggling franchise in the Desert. Despite what league commissioner Gary Bettman stated, that had to be a significant [...]
No To Prospal
By Derek Felix at 29 July, 2009, 10:02 am
Yesterday, the Lightning bought out Vaclav Prospal a year after signing him to a four-year $14 million contract. Welcome to the bizarro world of Tampa where there’s never any stability.
Didn’t they just give away Jussi Jokinen to the Candy Canes for garbage this past Spring? Funny enough, it sounds like they’re back in the market [...]
Canes buyout F. Kaberle
By Derek Felix at 28 July, 2009, 4:42 pm
No new free agent news to report today. So, guess that Tanguay rumor was just that at this juncture. That’s why I reported it that way. Cause you never know. Though I do think he’d be a decent fit in the Coyote lineup. We’ll have to wait and see.
The only real news excluding Sidney Crosby’s [...]

By Derek Felix at 27 July, 2009, 10:39 pm
It looks like Alex Tanguay is headed back West. According to NHLSourcesSay via Twitter, the left wing is expected to sign with the Coyotes later today.
It’s rumored to be two or three years between $4-5 million-per-season. If true, that seems a little steep for a guy who came off an injury riddled season. Tanguay missed [...]

By Derek Felix at 27 July, 2009, 5:35 am
It’s the final Monday in July and that means we’re getting closer to September. Yes puckers, the long summer feels like a thing of the past and before you know it, training camp shall commence.
What does it mean for the Islanders aside from the John Tavares Era? Will it be through trial and error for [...]
