FA Frenzy Discussion
By Derek Felix at 30 June, 2009, 11:50 pm
Last night, yours truly along with ever popular host Brian- dying for the Sabres to do something along with good Program buddy Chris Wassel talked puck as we threw our darts at the board for the July 1 FA frenzy.
The show went for roughly two hours ranging from Sabres, Devils, Rangers, Islanders to anything NHL [...]
Heatley Update
By Derek Felix at 30 June, 2009, 11:25 pm
I just literally walked in and it’s past 1 AM here. Had a fun night covering a minor league ballgame that went 11 with the always exciting walkoff. Made up for the rain and lengthy stay.
As Hasan noted earlier, Dany Heatley rejected the Sens’ trade to Edmonton meaning that once again, an NHL star dissed [...]

Do you know where your free agents are?
Well technically, UFA doesn’t begin for another twelve hours (at 12 PM EST) but man the moves have been coming fast and furious already starting with the Gomez – Higgins trade a few hours ago of course.Â
Somewhat less surprisingly, Dany Heatley was traded to the Oilers for defenseman [...]
Rangers trade Gomez to Habs for Higgins
By Derek Felix at 30 June, 2009, 4:14 pm
The rumors were true. There’d been talk that Montreal had interest in Scott Gomez to replace UFA Saku Koivu as their top center.
Apparently, that’s what happened as the Canadiens and Rangers have struck a deal involvingthe playmaking pivot with Gomez headed north of the border for left wing Chris Higgins.
In two seasons spent on Broadway [...]

Less than 24 hours before free agency, the Rangers and Canadiens made big-time news with a trade that was just announced a half-hour ago. New York traded center Scott Gomez, winger Tom Pyatt and defenseman Mike Busto to Montreal for winger Chris Higgins, defensemen Doug Janik, Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko.Â
Clearly the key players in [...]
Parise headlines strong local USA list, seven named
By Derek Felix at 30 June, 2009, 1:53 pm
Earlier today, USA Hockey announced the Olympic camp roster. Not surprisingly, it included plenty of local flavor with players from all four Battle teams represented.
That included Devil Second Team All-Star Zach Parise. A no-brainer following his breakout season in which he set new career highs across the board in goals (45), assists (49), points (94), [...]
Peaks and valleys
By Gary Harding at 30 June, 2009, 6:18 am
Friday was indeed a peak!
I just love how Garth did not show his hand. No one even thought he was going to take JT. Even minutes before the pick, it seemed that every “EXPERT” had Duchene in Snowy’s sights.
Basically, Garth did what every GM would have done — he took the best player [...]
Blueshirts deal for Boyle, acquire Chad Johnson
By Derek Felix at 29 June, 2009, 3:27 pm
Over the weekend, the Blueshirts not only drafted seven new players but also added a couple of others via small deals, acquiring forward Brian Boyle from LA for a 2010 third round pick and sending one of their 2009 fifths to the Pens for the rights to goalie Chad Johnson.
The move for the 6-7, 252 [...]

Size Matters? It’s A Miracle!
By Brian Sanborn at 28 June, 2009, 11:36 am
As I sit here on a Sunday morning in Southern California and reflect on the weekend that was on Montreal for the 2009 NHL Draft, many different thoughts come to mind. As for the Buffalo Sabres, can I tell you if the players Sabres GM Darcy Regier and Co. selected will be great or bust? Not [...]
