Rangers fire blanks at Rask
By Derek Felix at 31 January, 2009, 6:24 pm
Apparently, the Rangers did about as much as I did this afternoon. Well, at least offensively as they were blanked by rookie Tuuka Rask and the Bruins 1-0 in Beantown.
At least I had a valid reason. I stayed up and watched Serena Williams whip Dinara Safina for her fourth Australian Open title and then recapped [...]
Pre-Game thoughts – Isles vs Panthers
By Gary Harding at 31 January, 2009, 11:08 am
I really look forward to see how the team resonds to start this game. The team looked BRILLIANT after the first stanza on Thursday night – and I would like to see the same intensity and action tonight. Even though the Panthers are a better team when it comes to the standings, it [...]

Perhaps it was fitting on a night where the Devils honored HOF broadcaster Doc Emrick that tonight’s game actually surpassed last night’s wild win in Boston for drama and excitement -Â and with the same result in the end, a 4-3 Devils come from behind OT win that was probably the team’s best win at the [...]

But scary, nevertheless…
Kyle mentioned in the 1st intermission on radio with Steve Mears that the Isles need to treat the period like it is a 0-0 game, instead of a four goal lead..
Maybe he should have mentioned that for the third too. Three goals by Atlanta in the first 10 minutes of the 3rd [...]
A showdown that lived up to its billing
By Hasan4978 at 29 January, 2009, 9:52 pm
For the first part of the 2008-09 season the Bruins had been nothing short of dominant, tied for the most points in the NHL with 75 in 48 games, including a 18-3-2 record at home. As a team, Boston was second in goals scored and tied for first in fewest goals allowed. While a resurgent [...]

By Derek Felix at 29 January, 2009, 5:57 am
I do this with my Hitting Back site usually highlighting favorite music videos. Obviously, that doesn’t apply here but maybe it’s time for a new Video category dedicated to the coolest puck highlights.
Why not? We can mix ‘em in along with our local coverage. Whether it be a highlight reel goal, big save, great pass, awesome [...]
Crosby led Pens humiliate Rangers
By Derek Felix at 28 January, 2009, 10:43 pm
For 40 minutes, nothing separated the Rangers and Pens at Mellon Arena. Locked up at one, it looked like another battle between Atlantic rivals would be decided by the next goal.
Instead, Sidney Crosby and the Pens had other ideas outscoring a lackluster Blueshirt team 5-1Â doubling them up in shots 16-8 as part of a humiliating [...]
Start Of Something Big Or Vintage Tease?
By grosek18 at 28 January, 2009, 12:28 pm
Last night’s matchup between the Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers pitted two teams against each other that are ‘head scratching’ organizations. Sometimes you watch them play, and they dazzle you. Other times, they frustrate you with inexplicable losses.
Going into last night, you would have figured we would see a 4-3 type game, and perhaps another [...]
Rangers hang on over Candy Canes
By Derek Felix at 28 January, 2009, 1:49 am
At the end of the day, the most important thing was the ‘W’ the Rangers got to keep pace with the red hot Devils remaining a point behind with one extra game played.
That they had to hang on to do it winning 3-2 over the pesky Hurricanes is nothing to brag about. It was an [...]
Road warriors keep winning battles
By Hasan4978 at 27 January, 2009, 9:13 pm
After the two-day skills competition better known as All-Star weekend, finally 24 NHL teams including the Devils and Senators got back to real hockey tonight. Fortunately for New Jersey the break did nothing to stall their hot streak, as they won their sixth straight game in Ottawa by a 4-1 score – giving the team its 30th [...]
